It was inspired when some friends moved to an apartment backing onto communal gardens not far from Notting Hill in London. The story tells how Stella (11) and Tom (8), while trying to find their elderly neighbour’s missing dog, discover a time tunnel and a secret lake that take them to their home and the children living there 100 years earlier. I believe this is from the 90's, and a lot of the chapters show. However, it seems a bit overdue for an updated version. 2) This boo seems to be HIGHLY recommended from several sources. I might have been better off just buying the Kindle version or a physical copy to read. Very stiff, no connection, no nuance in tone, no emotion. I feel like he's presenting this book as if its some kind of 1980's cooperate instructional video. Two things primarily: 1) First and foremost is the narrator. Even though I'm sure a lot of the information here will be useful as an introduction to this world, a lot of things do throw me off from finishing this book. Picked up this book based off of SEVERAL recommendations. 40% in so far, narrator is making this rough. It was a a great comics crossover to have one of the top mainstream writers meet with two of the best creators from the avant garde experimental comics world. Then we were joined by superstar comics writer Matt Fraction (Casanova, Invincible Iron Man, Thor), who moderated an interview with the boys. His mystic personality balanced nicely with Brian Chippendale’s sweet punk personality. I also admire that CF was really comfortable talking about some of the more abstract, subconscious philosophies that go into being an artist. It looks like CF is ready to start experimenting with some new styles. CF gave a preview of some new paintings he’s been working on. Brian shared a lot of really cool early drawings, zines and sketchbook stuff that we’d never seen before. We started the evening with each artist doing a slide show presentation as they talked about their work. It was great to meet these Fort Thunder legends in person. What is so valuable that it needs such protection? Has it anything to do with the mystery of the young man's death? And why have assassins been pursuing the King's courier across the savage moor land only to murder him at a lonely wayside tavern? Hildegard risks all dangers to seek out the truth. There she discovers a secret tower, locked and barred, with armed men on guard. Is it possible that the young man was killed by a dragon, as Hildegard's been told? Of course, Hildegard does not believe in dragons, and despite being warned against it, she goes for a walk in the woods. His wounds appear to be the ravages of claws, but larger than any animal Hildegard knows of. His body bears deep gashes from neck to groin. While walking about the grounds, Hildegard discovers the corpse of a young man in the morgue. Used as a house of correction for sinning nuns, it lies in the north of the county in the middle of a vast wood and is run by the ambiguous Abbess Basilda and her close group of hard-faced acolytes. Still unsure whether she will rejoin the Order, the Prioress suggests that a visit to Handale Priory might help provide some clarity. Hildegard, no longer a member of the Cistercian order of nuns, has returned to the priory after more than a year from her pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, Spain. |
